The Laboratory was opened in 1958 by the NOAA, and began researching the Kemp's
Ridley sea turtle and the Loggerhead sea turtle in 1978. Research includes
improvements in husbandry techniques, feeding, growth, pathology, tagging, sea
turtle strandings, and the treatment and rehabilitation of sick and injured
turtles.

The Mardi Gras Museum is a tribute to past and present celebrations of an Island
tradition begun in 1867. It houses historical costumes and memorabilia dating to
1876, models and photographs of the Arches for Galveston project, and space for
rotating exhibits.

Moody Gardens features a 10
story Rainforest Pyramid offering an incredible tropical environment, and is
home to the largest bat exhibit in the Southwest. The IMAX 3D keeps visitors
jumping out of their seats, and the experience is so real they reach out to
touch objects that seem to be just inches away. Palm Beach offers a white sand
beach with a blue lagoon and lots of fun for kids. The Discovery Pyramid
features a host of interactive exhibits where visitors can learn about the
wonders of science, and take a fascinating adventure ride in the IMAX Ridefilm
Theater. Another Moody Gardens attraction, the Aquarium Pyramid, is one the
largest in the world and features 100,000 square feet of exhibit space
showcasing the waters of the world.

The Offshore Energy Center (OEC) operates its state-of-the-art facility, the
Ocean Star.
Visitors step on board, tour
the completely refurbished jackup drilling rig, absorb the day-to-day excitement
of offshore drilling and production, marine transportation, environmental
protection, construction, pipelining - all experienced through three decks of
videos, equipment exhibits and interactive displays. It's a museum, educational
attraction and working drilling rig all rolled into one.

Shearn Moody Plaza was the headquarters of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe until
the offices closed in 1964. The majority of the building is office space for
various businesses and organizations, but the large, central waiting room is the
original waiting room built in 1932.

aviation exhibits in the nation. Over 40 restored aircraft are displayed and
