It was opened in 1893 with a choir, two brass bands and a 50-piece orchestra. Today, the South Pier is a modern amusement complex with an arcade, dodgem cars, and the pier-end white knuckle rides that replaced the old pavilion. The top of the pier provides a stunning vantage point to look out over the resort below.
